Jane Bang is a provocative rapper with strong sex appeal and no censor button. With some select teaser tracks available through Myspace and the hype machine, Jane has built an uncanny following over the Internet practically overnight. She made her first entrance with the song “Untame”, which depicts her racy beats with playful, biting dialogue – which was accompanied with the music video. Staying true to her Brooklyn roots with old school rhyming techniques, she infuses beats from European influenced electro. Progressing from “Untame,” Jane has finally released her first official single, with an entire album due to be released early 2012. “Crunk It” features official remix covers by Dirty Disco Youth, Tom Deluxx and Symone and has been featured in mixes by DJs such as Benny Benassi and Tommie Sunshine.

After almost two years of teaser tracks available over the internet, Jane Bang has finally released her first single “Crunk It” vs Gigi Barocco, under the Zooland Records Label. The song and official remix covers are available on iTunes and Beatport. The Music video for “Crunk It” was executive produced by Jay Schweid for VIC-ART (VIC-ART.com) along side Cross Street Productions Inc. and directed by Gianluca Fellini. Lead makeup was executed by Natalia Ramirez and lead hair was Joseph DiMaggio. Jane embodies a femme take on edgy street style. The video was sponsored by Creep Street, Neff Headwear, Married to the Mob, Logan Neitzel, Enter Pronoun, Jump Shoes, Two In The Shirt, Bolt Cutter, Epitaph Collection Jewelry and Skull Candy.

Though she needed medical attention after partying at the Met gala last week, Rihanna was spotted partying late Saturday night at SoHo nightclub Greenhouse. The club featured a party by Get Right Records, and the label’s founder DJ Benzi spun during the evening with Silver Medallion, who is also signed to the label. While rapper Flo Rida arrived early and held court with friends, Rihanna arrived at 2 a.m. with security. Spies told us that the “We Found Love” singer “was dancing up a storm,” with her security detail and various managers from the club. Sources told us RiRi wanted to dance so long, the DJs kept the music going past the club’s usual 4 a.m. closing time. Rihanna last week attended the Costume Institute Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, looking gorgeous in a slim-fitting crocodile Tom Ford dress. But the next day the singer posted a photo of herself on Twitter receiving an IV drip in her arm. Rihanna had explained on Twitter last weekend that she was battling an illness. By Thursday, the singer appeared healthy in Los Angeles, walking the red carpet with a smile at the “Battleship” premiere. Before partying at Greenhouse, behind-the-scenes photos of Rihanna from the set of her new video, “Where Have You Been” were posted on her Facebook wall.

Grammy Award-winning guitarist Tom Morello made a special appearance at yesterday’s May Day Occupy Wall Street in New York City’s Bryant Park. Singing along with a large crowd of protestors, Morello performed an acoustic version of Woody Guthrie’s “This Land is Your Land.”

“As I was walking, I saw a sign, and that sign said no trespassing. On the other side, it didn’t say nothing. That sign was made for you and me,” sang Morello in the encore to his October 2011 performance of the same song at another OWS protest. Finishing off by joining and leading the moving crowd toward Union Square, Morello shouted “Let’s march and sing!”

Known for his work with Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave, Tom Morello is also the co-founder of Axis of Justice, a non-profit organization that focuses on political activism. The radio network hosts a weekly program that aims to “bring together musicians, fans of music, and grassroots political organizations to fight for social justice.”

Also in attendance were alternative Hip-Hop group Das Racist, who took the stage to perform “Michael Jackson” and “Rainbow in the Dark.” Electronic artist and composer Dan Deacon was also there, trying to organize the crowd into what he called a “Michael Jackson ‘Thriller’-style dance-off.” It wasn’t exactly successful, but as you can see in the video below, the crowd at least managed to jump up and down in time with the music.

Internationally acclaimed Grammy-award winning songwriter, singer and record producer David Foster regaled a star-studded crowd with his music at the Beverly Hilton Hotel Apr. 21 at the Odyssey Ball. This year billed as a VIP Club Night, the annual ball benefited the John Wayne Cancer Institute at Saint John’s Health Center in Santa Monica.

Foster’s “friends,” joining him to entertain, included Katherine Jenkins, Fernando Varela, Draco Rosa and Jack Carter. Together, they entertained 650 guests, among them actors Ryan O’Neal, Tatum O’Neal, Alana Stewart and Dick Van Patten, celebrity stylist Kim Vo, director Wolfgang Petersen, designer Sue Wong, and others.

The big turnout from “Dancing With The Stars” consisted of – aside from opera singer and this season’s super contestant Jenkins – former contenders, including tennis great Martina Navratilova and actress Marlee Matlin; judge Bruno Tonioli; and professional dancers Mark Ballas and Peta Murgatroyd.

Pro dancer Tony Dovolani of “Dancing With The Stars” emceed the gala, which honored Lawrence D. Piro, M.D., with “The Duke” Special Service Award. Piro is president and CEO of The Angeles Clinic and Research Institute and a leading oncologist.

“He has been our ‘go to’ specialist in oncology for four years now,” said Andrew Ordon, M.D., aka “Dr. Drew.” “We have also become friends—a true doctors doctor,” he added, having arrived elated, after wrapping the latest season of “The Doctors.”

Actor Patrick Wayne, one of John Wayne’s sons, expressed similar admiration for Piro. “He is on the cutting edge of worldwide cancer research, both traditional and non-traditional, and is open to new experiences,” Wayne said, adding that Piro is also a life coach.”

With DJ Enferno – who toured with Madonna – providing the music, Foster and friends led an increasingly raucous crowd to an evening of comedy, song and dance. Who knew that celebrating cancer research could have such life?

Teddi Gilderman, Katie Lewis and Marisol Zarco served as co-chairs, alongside board members Hollace Brown, Martha Harper, Maddy Gordon, Susan Veerman, Cynde Wilen, Shirley Lipstone, Anita Swift, Jackie Banchik, Diane Feldman, Roberta Novick and others.

They’ve really opened the doors for Casio and we’re thrilled to be working with them to promote our professional keyboards.”

Since the first Beat Refinery opened in 2010, classes have been dedicated to teaching every aspect of DJing, combining traditional methods with the latest technology. Individual classes are taught by local working DJ legends, including veterans of the national DJ club scene DJ Stylus Chris and DJ Geometrix

“If you love music and technology, this is something you should try.” says Katie F., Beat Refinery student. DJ and former Beat Refinery student Ross A. says “Whether you’ve played for hundreds of people or haven’t dropped a needle for the first time yet… the Beat Refinery can certainly teach you something.”

An Open House Party to celebrate the launch of the McLean school is on Wednesday, February 29, from 6-8 PM. This new location will feature the world-famous DJ Enferno – Madonna’s tour DJ, DMC World Vice Champion , veteran club DJ, production guru, and creator of the Live Remix Project. “Being in the same DJ crew with DJ Enferno and being good friends with him for the past 15 years, I’ve had the pleasure of learning most of the things I know about DJing from one of the best in the industry,” says DJ Geometrix, co-founder and director of the Beat Refinery. “I credit him as one of my influences in becoming an overall great DJ and if it wasn’t for him, I probably wouldn’t have made the jump in becoming a professional DJ. I’m excited that he’s joining the Beat Refinery family and I can’t wait for him to share to our students the same wisdom and knowledge he’s given me throughout my career.”

The Beat Refinery offers a wide range of class levels, from novice to seasoned performer. Classes focus on skill sets including how to beat match, scratch, drop mix, create mash-ups, mix and blend, record multi-track mixes, and produce. The facility is stocked with some of the industry’s top turntables and mixers. Other Beat Refinery schools are located in Bethesda, MD, and Herndon, VA. The new semester of classes starts Monday, March 5, 2012, at all Beat Refinery locations.

In case you were wondering where MTV Artist To Watch 2012 Dev‘s “thump” is, it’s in the back of her ride, as she’ll tell you repeatedly in her new video “In My Trunk.” The track itself is another electro-dance banger from the “Backseat” singer (this girl really likes cars), but the video kind of reminds us of M.I.A.’s “Bad Girls” but set in Los Angeles… and with lasers!

We know that Dev’s got that figurative thump in her trunk as she and her fiancé recently welcomed a new baby girl into the world (hey-o!), but Dev’s literal thumps can also be found in her trunk, if “thumps” means “booty-dancing friends” and “multicolored lasers.” Dev chauffeurs us around L.A. in her old-school Caddy while her friends get down in the trunk. “It was a late night/No Scrabble game night/I’m a handful, ain’t I?/Ain’t I, ain’t I?” Listen, Dev’s definitely cooler than everyone ever, and we know you want to emulate her (me too), but do not try this at home, kids! Click it or ticket!

Watch Dev’s “In My Trunk” video after the jump.

Case in point: At the end of the video, Dev thumpin’ trunk gets her ass pulled over. But when the cop goes to look for the stash, it’s no longer in the trunk. Dev: part-time Booty Bouncer, part-time magician. Only in California would that be considered a job.

By Amos Barshad on February 14, 2012 2:15 PM ET

Has this been the greatest week of charity-inclined hip-hop in the history of Carnegie Hall? Last week Jay-Z played the famed venue to raise funds for United Way. Last night, Das Racist showed up for the annual Philip Glass-curated Tibet House Benefit concert.

They weren’t the only ones in the building. As it does every year, the Tibet House concert trotted out a potent hodgepodge of a lineup. A crew of Tibetan monks, rocking traditional robes and headdress but also Chucks and Adidases and clogs, kicked things off with a bit of mesmerizing guttural chanting. Laurie “Yes, I’m Married to Lou Reed But I’m Famous On My Own, Thanks” Anderson followed up with a spoken-word piece overlaid on an ominous keyboard and electric violin instrumental. It was about a Buddhist retreat in Utah she went on, one that was interrupted and overtaken by an Outward Bound/incest-support group. It, rightfully, got huge laughs. Then Antony, of “and the Johnsons,” joined her and sang a song about Hansel and Gretel, all grown up. (They live in Berlin now, and spend their nights drinking schnapps and gin. She works as a cocktail waitress; he’s had a part in a Fassbender film.) He wrapped things up by calling out “but there is a storm brewing” over and over and, because his voice is exactly as spooky in real life as it is on record, I had to fight off the urge to curl up into the fetal position.

More performers followed: dubstep heartthrob James Blake, animated, skinny-panted violinist Tim Fain, the Kathmandu-via-Zurich singer Dechen Shak-Dagsay. And then it was time for Philip Glass to introduce Das Racist. (For the record, he did mispronounce the first part of their name but, come on, it’s Philip Glass. We can let it slide.) I wasn’t quite sure if they’d be doing one of their own songs, or if they had whipped up something else for the occasion. The Playbill offered no support there. Their bio just read “Das Racist is a white guilt art project/science experiment/ponzie scheme piloted by @HIMANSHU, KOOL A.D., and The Honorable Prophet Dapwell. Their goal is to make a million American dollars.”

They trotted out — Heems and Kool A.D. in suits, Dapwell in a fetching flowing white kurta — with the support of a silver-leggings-wearing drummer and a legit four-person string section. Kool A.D. gave Philip Glass the handshake-hug combo. Heems asked everyone to “wave back at us. Do the two-hand wave.” And then they ripped into their single “Michael Jackson.”

When they did the same track on Conan, it was a consciously bewildering, low-energy affair that came complete with a Michael Jackson impersonator. It was a surreal moment. And while I don’t want to start any fights here, I think last night’s was weirder. The basic dissonance of where we were (and the fact that the place did not seem sonically equipped to handle rap music) was one thing. More important, though, was this: Dapwell never stopped air-humping for long. If he wasn’t air-humping, he was swirling his hands in full rotations, or looping his arms behind his back and through his legs and grabbing his ankles and trying to walk. Meanwhile, Kool A.D. was dragging his mic stand limply behind him, or dapping up the grinning string section as they were trying to play, or pulling out a giant American flag and carrying that around for a bit. At one point he flopped on his back at the edge of the stage and then caromed over himself; at another, he went and sat down in the front row. The white-haired gentleman in front of me was loving it.

There was more to come. Rahzel (who, I was glad to find, still introduces himself as “Rahzel of the Legendary Roots Crew” despite his years away from the band) shredded with a robot-themed beat-boxing display. Stephin Merritt played a ukulele. Lou Reed did the Velvet Underground’s “Beginning to See the Light” with the help of a mustachioed hipster guitarist and what may or may not have been an iPad with his lyrics on it. And at the end, everyone came out and sang Philip Glass a happy birthday (celebrations for his 75th year have been going on all year), and someone draped a white sash around him. Lou Reed, James Blake, and Das Racist at Carnegie Hall? Not a bad birthday haul.

Clinton Sparks is the definition of a workaholic. He has 10-plus projects staring him in the face at the moment and he strives to obtain about 10 more. Some of the endeavors have already hit the airwaves, like the remix he created for Lady Gaga’s “Bloody Mary,” of which the original has scored him a 2012 Grammy nomination. For a Boston boy who had his head buried in turntables and production equipment on the come-up, the nod is a dream come true. However, it’s an accomplishment earned due to his tireless work ethic.

But just because he’s constantly behind the boards doesn’t mean he’s a bore. “I have become the life of the party,” Sparks tells Rap-Up.com. Besides mixing records in the clubs, on his syndicated SmashTime Radio show, and playing some of his latest mixtape cuts on SiriusXM’s Shade 45, the DJ interviews Hollywood’s biggest stars and the music industry’s chart-topping talents as an E! correspondent. He uses his charm and comedic personality to deliver exclusive information to the masses. With over 14 years in the business, getting down to the nitty-gritty is second nature.

Looking at Sparks’ résumé proves his skill in crafting substantial tracks. Plies, T-Pain, Bun B, the Notorious B.I.G., Beyoncé, Ludacris, Busta Rhymes, and Akon are just a few of the names he’s produced and written records for. Yes, Clinton Sparks is a songwriter too.

Read on as the Interscope Records signee—he has an official album due this year—gives insight into the hectic life he leads, explains why he’s connected to a disco ball, and reveals the next track he’s dropping with Pitbull.

1. How long have you been a DJ?
Ten years.

2. What are you currently working on?
I am always working on multiple things simultaneously, so today I am working on music for everyone’s album from Usher to Enrique [Iglesias] to Mike Posner. Additionally, I am working on my album with awesome pals like Jim Jonsin, Rico Love, DJ R3hab, [and] DJ Snake, and I am preparing to release my first single titled “Watch You” featuring Pitbull (Get Familiar/Mass Appeal/Strictly Rhythm). I am also going to release My Awesome Mixtape 2 and consistently put out remixes and bootlegs. I’ll also release my own music; I have a new song produced by Jim Jonsin on My Awesome Mixtape 2 titled “The Life of the Party.” I just finished editing the video to my band UGHmerica’s second single “Outta Town.” We’ll release that with the song next month and I just posted a remix to the song that got me my 2012 Grammy nomination—Lady Gaga’s “Bloody Mary”—which can be downloaded free, along with all my other songs and mixes, at clintonsparks.com.

3. How did you get your first big break?
I don’t think I ever had one big break. It’s been a culmination of many little victories—from becoming a host on E! News, to being Diddy’s tour DJ, to my syndicated my radio show, to writing and producing some platinum records, to becoming a resident DJ in Las Vegas, to being able to work with some huge names in the business, to being recognized as a top DJ by Rolling Stone, to endorsement deals with Pepsi [and] Ciroc, to creating and owning Mixunit.com, which was the biggest mixtape culture website that I am no longer apart of. The list goes on. I have been very fortunate to consistently be a part of some amazing things. Life is awesome!

4. Moment when you knew you had made it?
I don’t think that I have “made it.” I’m not naïve to know other people may think I have achieved great success, but I have really high standards and I am a workaholic [and] overachiever so when, for example, I’m told that I am nominated for a Grammy, my next thought is, “Great! What do I got to do next?” I never really relish in accomplishment. I am always nervous it will all go away tomorrow, so I keep my head down and stay working. I’m probably going to be one of those guys that work until I die. The great thing about my work is that it’s what I would be doing for fun.

5. Favorite artists right now?
I don’t have one favorite artist out right now. I think there’s so much talent out and not technically “out” but [instead] on the Internet or underground. I love that artistry has demolished the rules and guidelines of what an artist traditionally has to be in the eyes of record labels. Artists are writing, producing, singing, rapping, shooting their videos, editing them, [and] taking pics. They are self-sufficient and they pull from all types of music. A kids’ iPod doesn’t just have one genre of music any longer and that is indicative of what these new artists, including myself, reflect—a melting pot of everything we grew up on. A hybrid artist with no category.

6. Artists to look out for in 2012?
Clinton Sparks, Sammy Adams, UGHmerica, and Disco Fries.

7. What do you consider your greatest accomplishment?
Convincing people to believe in my vision and ideas. It was difficult to just get out of Boston and convince people there and outside of what I had in my head. I just consistently kept putting music out and didn’t understand the word “no” or realized that obstacles even existed. Therefore, once I set a goal, it was accomplished, every time. I could tell 100 stories of triumph by not letting hate or doubt get in my way but that’s an interview in itself.

8. Future goals?
I want to make people happy and create music that people can use and not just listen to. I’m working on my album and crafting music that not only people can relate to but feel something emotionally as well. I love to write about scenarios that we all go through and can relate to. A lot of my writing for this album has been speaking to people who love, whether it’s life, others, partying, or yourself. I am threaded in the party life. It has become a massive part of my life. I’m connected to the disco ball and chain.

9. What record always gets the party started?
Whatever record I decide to play. It’s not about the song, it’s about how you play it, set it up, and use it. Of course for certain crowds, there are go-to, no-brainer records that will get an immediate reaction. I like records that have energy and drive. Records that even if you never heard it, it evokes an emotion that makes you want to rage.

10. What’s your advice to aspiring DJs?
It’s very important to establish who you are, your style, taste, [and] personality to get a fan base to like you for you and to stand out. Virtually anybody can say they are a DJ but what you do and how you do it is the difference between you saying, “I’m a DJ” to people saying, “That’s my favorite DJ.” It’s also important to produce music as well. Be the first “you” and not the second “somebody else” and you will, for certain, find people that do not like you, but more importantly, ones that love you.

DJ Solarz has been perfecting his craft of DJing for twelve years and producing music for five years. Music has played an integral part of his life at a very young age and continues to play a prominent role throughout the years.

“I began playing the violin at age four and continued through middle school. I was lucky to learn how to read music as well as basic music theory while I was still young. Though I didn’t end up sticking with the violin, I’m thankful that everything I learned then, I’m able to apply to both my production work and DJing now,” exclaims Solarz. Being exposed to music at an early age enabled him to cultivate his skills and simultaneously apply it to all facets of his work today.

DJ Solarz was heavily influenced by artists around The Bay area. The music compelled and captivated his fascination and innately he pursued his passion.

“Growing up in the Bay Area I was surrounded by great DJs and remixers such as Jazzy Jim and Michael Ericsson. I was intrigued by their radio mixes and although I wasn’t really sure what they were doing, I knew I wanted to do it. At some point an older friend of mine mentioned that he had turntables at his house and offered to let me come by and check them out. I remember him giving me a stack of records then leaving the room for about an hour. I instantly was hooked although I barley was able to mix two songs together. I eventually saved up for my own DJ setup. I practiced my butt off for over a year before gaining the confidence to work any public events. I started doing local house and fraternity parties, slowly working my way into bars and nightclubs around town. I worked for free; in fact I took a loss for quite some time renting sound equipment for gigs, just to get my foot in the door.”

Solarz practiced religiously until he felt it was perfect. When he started out in the game, he compromised his compensation in order to hone his craft until he had enough confidence to spin in the limelight. His unwavering desire and drive certainly paid off in the long run.

In 2002, DJ Solarz eventually met his right-hand man, DJ Guzie. The chemistry was organic from the jump and the creation of the Rock-It!
Scientists came to fruition.

“In 2002 I met my partner in crime, DJ Guzie (the other half of the Rock-It! Scientists).” The Rock-it! Scientists had high hopes and dreams proved to be hungry and their voracious hunger was the driving force that pushed them to set their sights on DJing internationally. This hunger desire leads them to gigs in Mexico and eventually would cause a buzz in the music business. DJ Solarz comments, that “Over the last five years we’ve done shows all over the world and continue to spend a significant amount of time on the road.”

The wild success and popularity of the Rock-it! Scientists gave them the honor to produce remixes for Kanye West, Far East Movement, Wynter Gordon, LMFAO and Rihanna. Their latest endeavor is a remix they just finished a with Dev and Enrique Iglesias entitled, “Naked”. You can listen and download it for free on their website: http://www.therockitscientists.com

Etan Solarz was born and raised in Berkeley, CA. He raced mountain bikes until the age of 19. Ranked the number 1 rider in the US, Solarz spent two summers at the Olympic Training Center; in 2000 he moved to Colorado to continue his training. Unfortunately on his first day of training in Colorado, he had a tragic accident that would end his riding career. “I was struck by a car and was unable to train for nearly a year. Being forced to stay inside and off my bike, DJing quickly took over my life,” says Solarz.

When asked to give a brief description about himself, Solarz states, “I’m sure to some, I come across as a wildly confident person; however I’ll be the first to admit how insecure I am at times. My sense of humor is a direct result of my insecurities and my drive as an artist is no doubt fueled by my need to prove myself. Not sure if that’s a good thing all the time. If I could afford it, I’d see a shrink twice a week! That’s no joke.”

This is the truth about Etan Solarz as he goes through his self struggles as an artist. Solarz’ insecurities never prevented him from pursuing his dreams; it was the fuel for his fire. If DJ Solarz isn’t in the high demand octane action of the entertainment scene, you can catch him sipping on a cup of coffee and casually riding his bike around town. Solarz strives to be a balanced person; he measures his success not only through his professional career but also in his personal relationships. “I aspire to be an amazing father and husband (though I should probably get married and have children first), professionally I aim to be a world renowned music producer working with top artists, making hit after hit…changing lives through music,” declares Solarz. Ultimately, the simple things that make him happy is spending time with friends and family, riding his bike, eating and listening to R&B music.
