Shwayze
Two things happened the night Shwayze jumped up on stage uninvited at the Malibu Inn and declared himself the only black kid in Malibu—1) He almost got thrown out of the place, and 2) He met mentor Cisco Adler, whose gig he had just crashed. The crowd went wild for their Malibu brotha, and a friendship soon developed between he and Cisco. The duo formed a great partnership, adding in fellow LA kid DJ Skeet Skeet along the way. Together, Shwayze and team just may have created the album of the summer.
A melting-pot of laid-back melodies, hip-hop rhythms and acoustic guitars, Shwayze’s self-titled debut [Suretone/Geffen Records] pays homage to an all-day-and-into-the-night party lifestyle colored by the rolling tides of his hometown beaches, and the rolling papers that flavor the proceedings. Collaborating with Shwayze, Adler co-wrote all of the songs on the album, producing and providing backing vocals along the way.
“Buzzin’” splashes Cisco’s roots-rock acoustic-guitar and vocal tapestry with Shwayze’s cooler-than-a-sea-breeze hip-hop delivery. Says the rapper, “It’s a new West Coast sound, it's California chill, West Coast stoner music.”
Shwayze’s come a long way from his Malibu trailer days (yeah—there’s trailers in Malibu). He’s already played shows around the country and has audiences begging for more. To add to the hype—MTV will be airing a reality show called “Buzzin’” in the spring staring Shwayze and his merry Malibu marauder buddies Cisco and Skeet.
Buzzin’ has proved to be the perfect name for the lead single—whether people are talking about the sound, the hype, or the artist the buzz is all around.
